Unpacking the LESSONS of Season 1: What GOD Taught Me About Christian MEN
Thirteen episodes in. One season done.
When I started this channel, I had no idea where it was going to go. I didn’t know where it would end up. But here we are.
If you’ve been here since Episode 1, thank you. If you’re new here, stick around.
Today, I want to talk about what this channel is about, where it’s been, and where it’s going. This is the wrap-up to Season 1 of The Better Story.
Why I Started This Channel
We’re not here to go viral or chase the algorithm.
I just want to be raw and natural with you guys.
I started noticing a pattern in the men around me. Friends from high school. Friends from university. Men from hobbies like triathlon and running. Even men from my church.
Men are drifting.
They’re isolating themselves.
And that’s not good.
There’s no real accountability. No brotherhood. No one asking the hard questions.
So I had a thought: if just one man hears this, if one man sees this and is able to change his life around, then it would all be worth it.
This isn’t self-help.
This definitely isn’t hustle culture.
I’m talking about Christian men who want to become closer to God, level themselves up, and become the best version of themselves they can be. Men who want to become godly men.
The world’s story for men right now is money, women, status, and power. Yet so many men end up empty at the end of the day.
We’re talking about something different here.
We’re talking about The Better Story.
Thank You
I want to thank everyone who has watched a video, subscribed, left a comment, or reached out in real life to tell me they enjoyed the content.
The channel is still small, but it’s making an impact.
That’s all I can really ask for.
Even during the weeks when I wondered, “Who’s actually watching this?” the answer was simple:
You were.
So thank you.
To the men who leave comments, share their stories, and continue the conversation, thank you as well.
This is a community we’re trying to build. When people share their experiences and struggles, it becomes true brotherhood.
Thank You, Jenna
I also want to thank my wife, Jenna.
She’s incredibly supportive of all my hobbies and activities, and starting this YouTube channel is definitely one of them.
She’s allowed me to take over the basement with all my gym equipment. Now it’s also a YouTube studio.
I even converted one of our guest bedrooms into an editing station and additional studio space.
So thank you, Jenna.
I love you.
Thank You, Charlotte
I also want to thank my daughter, Charlotte.
She inspired me to finally get this channel off the ground.
Being on paternity leave definitely helped, but becoming a father gave me the push I needed.
As I’ve said before, children are a glimpse of hope into the future.
While many men today are avoiding marriage and fatherhood, I often see despair and darkness waiting down that path.
Having a child has brightened the future for me in ways I can’t fully explain.
A Comment I’ll Never Forget
There was one comment left on a video that really stayed with me.
At a time when I wasn’t sure anything was going to come from this channel, it lit a fire inside me.
The comment said:
“Brother, I’ve been dealing with some stuff the last couple of months and have been having suicidal thoughts because of it and completely been feeling like giving up. I really do appreciate this video and am grateful for coming across it.”
When I first read that, I was shocked.
I was grateful that one of my videos reached someone during a difficult season and made an impact.
Honestly, if that’s all this channel ever accomplishes, I’m okay with that.
That’s enough.
To that man, thank you. I hope you’re doing well.
If you’re watching this, leave another comment and let me know how you’re doing. I’d love to hear from you again.
Lessons From Season 1
Lesson #1: Stay Focused
There were moments when I wondered if I should broaden the topics I cover.
Right now, this channel focuses on Christian men. Men struggling with relationships, faith, purpose, or economic challenges.
But the more I thought about it, the more convinced I became that I need to stay focused.
Men need this now more than ever.
I’ve said it many times before:
The most dangerous person in the world is a broken man who is alone.
And I don’t think there’s been a more important time to address that than right now.
Lesson #2: Authenticity Wins
The videos that have performed best are the ones where I was the most honest, the least filtered, and the least scripted.
I’m slowly learning that.
Many of my talking-head videos are carefully scripted. They’re filmed in my studio with professional lighting and cameras.
But I’ve discovered something.
I really enjoy walking around outside and simply talking to you.
With the dogs.
With my daughter.
Out in nature.
This feels natural.
This feels real.
This is where I’m starting to truly enjoy creating content.
You’ll still see studio videos, but you’ll also see more of these walk-and-talk conversations because I love being outside in God’s creation.
Lesson #3: The Men Who Need This Most Are the Hardest to Reach
This one is difficult.
I see many channels aimed at men who have been hurt by life, relationships, or divorce.
A lot of the content revolves around staying single, avoiding marriage, and becoming cynical toward women.
There’s so much bitterness and hopelessness.
The reality is that many of those men are the ones who most need to hear a different message.
I don’t know exactly where God is leading me with this, but I think about it often.
As a photographer, filmmaker, editor, and content creator, I want to use those gifts to help people.
Maybe I can reach a few men the way that earlier comment showed me is possible.
We’ll see where God takes it.
Lesson #4: Consistency Matters
You’ve heard it before because it’s true.
Consistency matters.
That’s why I’m committed to creating a video every week, and sometimes more than one.
Success isn’t just about the script.
It’s not just about the thumbnail.
It’s not just about the title.
It’s about showing up every week.
Trust isn’t built from one video.
Trust is built over time.
That’s what I hope to build with all of you.
Goals for Season 2
When I started this channel, it was actually a rebrand of my old triathlon and Ironman channel.
I had about 25 subscribers and a channel that was over ten years old.
Most of what I uploaded were race reports, and I’m still proud of those videos because those races were major accomplishments in my life.
But when I rebranded in March, things started to change.
Over the last two months, the channel has grown from about 25 subscribers to roughly 75 subscribers.
The audience is growing.
The watch time is growing.
And most importantly, I’m reaching the right people.
So here’s a goal:
I’d love to reach 1,000 subscribers by the end of 2026.
Maybe that’s ambitious.
Maybe it isn’t ambitious enough.
Either way, I think it’s possible if I stay consistent.
But I need your help.
If you’re already subscribed, share these videos with another man who needs to hear this message.
If you’re new here, welcome.
Share it with friends, brothers, fathers, sons, and men in your life who need encouragement.
What’s Coming Next?
Season 1 established who I am and what this channel is about.
Season 2 is going deeper.
More specific topics.
More thoughtful conversations.
More discussion.
These aren’t always easy topics to talk about, but I believe there needs to be a place where those conversations can happen.
And I’m happy to help facilitate them.
My biggest goal isn’t views.
It isn’t subscribers.
Those things matter, but they’re not the main thing.
The main goal is simple:
Bring men closer to God and build a community.
We desperately need real brotherhood today.
This channel is only a small contribution, but hopefully it’s one that matters.
A Challenge for You
If you’re not subscribed already, subscribe.
I’d love to hear more about your story and your struggles.
If you’re already subscribed, leave a comment.
What topics would you like to see discussed on this channel?
Where are you in life right now?
I also want to challenge you to do something in the real world.
Find a local church.
Join a men’s ministry if they have one.
Talk to your pastor.
Ask what opportunities exist in your community.
Joining a men’s group can be life-changing.
And if you have a Bible, open it.
If you don’t have one, I recommend picking up a New Living Translation (NLT).
It’s one of the easiest translations to understand in modern language, and I’ve really enjoyed reading it.
The Better Story
The better story isn’t sitting on the sidelines.
It’s picking up your sword.
Putting on your armor.
Stepping into the arena.
And becoming a godly man.
Looking Ahead
Season 1 is complete.
If you’re new here, all 13 episodes are available in a playlist so you can start from the beginning and see what resonates with you.
And believe it or not, Season 2 is already on the way.
I’ve already filmed at least a dozen new episodes and edited many of them.
The next chapter begins very soon.
If you’ve watched all the videos, thank you.
That means more than you know.
I put a tremendous amount of thought, effort, filming, lighting, editing, and prayer into every episode.
It’s been incredibly rewarding creating content for Christian men.
So if you’re new here, subscribe.
Tell me where you see men struggling most today.
Because when godly men stick together, iron sharpens iron.
And that’s The Better Story.
God bless.
